Behind the Glamour with Sarah: First Photo Shoot

On February 26, 2012, I conducted my first photo shoot as Creative Director and Wardrobe Stylist. The shoot was a complete success thanks to everyone that was involved; a special thanks to Vu Man Photography, Makeup Artist Ivory Narvell for La Belle Agency, Hair Stylist Kanda Patton for La Belle Agency, and Model Lissa Shomaker for making the shoot such a triumph! I cannot wait to add the finished photos to my portfolio; it was a lot of hard work to put everything together, from the clothes to the location, but the final photos are more than worth it!

From this experience, I learned that a lot more work goes into photo shoots than what it looks like. Pulling clothes is also a lot more of a task than I initially thought it would be, and also making sure that everything is getting done in a timely manner during the actual photo shoot. It was a learning experience, but I loved every minute of it, and I can't wait to do again!

The New Faces of Fashion Model Call

Saturday, March 3, 2012 La Belle Agency and Tonya Dailey held a model call at newly reopened A Tiny Hiney Baby Boutique. With nearly 200 people in attendance, we ended up with 90 models to select from for the photo shoot and the fashion show. After narrowing down the models even further, for the photography exhibit photo shoot on Sunday, March 4, 2012, 18 children were selected by photographer Tonya Dailey and styled by Ivory Narvell of La Belle Agency.

Now that the exhibit photo shoot is complete, selecting runway models for the fashion show has become so difficult, we had to make room for just a few more kids. 2 Model Searches for One Great Cause

La Belle Agency has joined noted photographer Tonya Dailey in the expansion her exhibit showcasing the beauty of children with Down syndrome. Together they will host The 2012 New Faces of Fashion Exhibit & Fashion Show on Sunday, April 1, 2012 at the beautiful Ashton Gardens in Corinth, Texas. At the exhibit and fashion show there are plans for a grand silent auction featuring items from great companies in which 100% of the proceeds will be donated to the Down Syndrome Guild of Dallas.

The Down Syndrome Guild of Dallas shares the same views as Dailey, that people with Down syndrome should be valued and included. Dailey believes that all children should be represented in advertisements and various children's editorials in fashion. The exhibit was originally created to show the word how it's done by first accepting the beauty of the children for just being children. La Belle Agency has joined Dailey's cause by agreeing to provide styling for her photo shoots and produce the fashion show segment now attached to this great exhibit.

On Saturday, March 3, 2012 Tonya Dailey and La Belle Agency will hold two model searches at one location. A Tiny Hiney Baby Boutique has cheerfully agreed to host the model search at their new location at 11661 Preston Road, Suite 210, Dallas, TX 75230. The model search will start at 11:00am to 2:00pm. Selected models for Tonya's Dailey's exhibit will be photographed on Sunday, March 4, 2012, while models selected by La Belle Agency will grace the runway on Sunday, April 1, 2012 at The New Faces of Fashion Exhibit & Fashion Show.

"The only professionals we are looking for are professional kids with great personalilities," states wardrobe stylist for La Belle Agency, Ivory Narvell. "We do not care about head shots or resumes. We just want happy and outgoing kids." The new flyer for the model search features Brooke Garbe from Arlington, Texas. Brooke has Down syndrome, an outstanding personality and was selected because she is fun to be with at a photo shoot. Brooke was styled by Narvell and then her family drove to Houston, Texas to shoot with Dailey. "It was a cold day to shoot outside but leave it to Miss Brooke to bring the sunshine," stated Dailey.

Beautifully Wicked

La Belle Agency stylists worked with photographer and owner of Gracefully Wicked Photography, Tiffany Carter, to produce a high-end fashion shoot for a local showroom. The shoot featured Ivory Narvell, wardrobe stylist for La Belle Agency and newly signed stylist for La Belle Agency, Michelle McBride on hairstylist and makeup artist for model Laurean.

Wardrobe curator, Narvell, styled Laurean as she incorporated pieces that represented a diva persona. A fur vest, gold-sequins pumps, backless leopard print dress, hot pink leggings were just a few, of the many, articles of clothing worn during the beauty shoot.

Makeup artist/hair stylist, McBride, was able to create several glamorous and edgy hair looks for Laurean ranging from voluminous, soft curls to a tousled Mohawk. McBride also provided the makeup looks for the shoot to give Laurean an alluring appearance that conveyed sophistication and sensuality. Below are some of the amazing pictures Carter took at the shoot.

Amber Fashion Alert

Hey everyone! My name is Amber, and I recently graduated from the University of North Texas. I received my B.A. in Journalism and double minor in Political Science and Fashion Merchandising. Although I love to write, I also have a passion for fashion. Anytime my professors allowed me to write on the topic of my choice I always wrote about fashion; without hesitation!

I also work at a big department store. After working in retail for five years I developed a love for clothes, designers, new trends, and a minor shopping addiction!

Currently I’m interning at La Belle Agency. I have a big interest in styling, and I’m constantly styling my friends and customers at my job. I also love going through my closet and creating fresh, new looks with clothes I already own. And of course, I would be lying if I said I don’t enjoy going shopping every once in a while. But this is why I’m excited about working at the La Belle Agency. I want to gain experience, get exposure, and expand my portfolio. Although my schooling has taught me a lot about the fashion industry, there is only so much a class lecture can teach. I believe I will gain more knowledge about the industry through actual experience, than from a lecture.  Overall I expect to work hard, learn a lot, and also have some fun!!!!!!

Behind the Glamour with Sarah

Hello everyone!

My name is Sarah Pope and I am currently in my last semester at the University of North Texas, studying Fashion Merchandising; I am very excited to be doing my internship with La Belle Agency to learn about styling, and to obtain invaluable experience about the career. A little bit about me: I love fashion and everything that it involves, whether that be runway shows or the textiles that are chosen for certain garments. The only thing that I love as much as fashion is music; I do hope that someday I will be able to incorporate both aspects into my career somehow. Even with the little time that I have been with La Belle Agency, I have already learned so much and I cannot wait to build upon it! As my internship continues, I will be giving you a behind the scenes look into photo shoots and everything else that comes along! Be sure to check back to get a private look at what La Belle Agency is all about!

Out of the Darkness...

It's no dark secret that Ivory Narvell is known for wearing many hats in the fashion industry. For her latest photo shoot she did the makeup, wardrobe styling and designed some of the pieces herself. When we asked her why does she wear so many hats, she replied, "I love hats. Even invisible work hats. I would have worn more invisible work hats but, Gerard's camera is bigger than mine, Shei looks better in the outfits and Kanda likes to do hair more than I do so, I had to share the hats."

Take a look at her latest work from the series called, "Out of the Darkness Come the Light". Narvell believes that there is a light and an angel waiting at the end of every dark tunnel in life. She states, "Life is just crazy. Sometimes all you have is a dream. Hold on to it. Mine was fashion and doing this for a living. I'm so glad that Shei was able to portray a strong, beautiful and angelic force. Visually she is 'the dream' coming out of the darkness."

Here Comes Hope! My 2nd Photo Shoot

Second photo shoot is complete! My theme for the shoot was Spring Beauty 2012. By researching the beauty trends for 2012 I found out that bold lips and eyes were a huge inspiration on the runways. Knowing that it’s a beauty shoot and only being shot waist up, I had to figure out what clothing to incorporate that would pair well with the bold make up, be cohesive and tell a story.  This gave me the idea to use three different color bow ties on the male model and matching lips and eyes on the female model.  My colors were fuchsia pink, orchid purple, and teal blue.

There were so many participants in this shoot and I am forever grateful for all their hard work and passion to make this concept come to life. My biggest issue was coming up with a location.  One thing I have learned throughout this internship is to utilize all the resources you have and I did just that by using my boyfriend’s apartment. It had an empty space that was free for the day and it was big enough to set up and shoot it.

The shoot lasted for about 7 hours. Some may think it’s a fun and exciting, but there is actually a lot of time invested into one photo shoot.  Not only, were there three wardrobe changes, but the make up artist and hair stylist have to change their looks as well.  Patience is key and you must always stay on task.

I cannot express enough how grateful I am for this experience and how much more knowledgeable I am; not only about the wardrobe styling process but how to come up with a photo shoot from the ground up.  Heading into the real world I have a better understanding of who I am as a wardrobe stylist and I now know what it takes to stand apart in the industry.  My biggest advice to future interns is to have an open mind about everything and to always stay driven.  It’s a very competitive industry and to get anywhere you have to NETWORK ,NETWORK, NETWORK, and to also contribute to others dreams and passions by participating in test shoots for they will help you in return!

Makeup for TCU Cheer Team!

La Belle Agency was honored to sponsor the TCU Cheer Team as they performed at the Cowboy's Stadium against BYU in October 2011. TCU's Cheer Team advised us about their "Frogs for the Cure" program which is an ongoing effort to raise money for Susan G. Komen for the Cure Greater Fort Worth and to create awareness for the fight against breast cancer. With such a great cause and an outstanding cheer team, we were proud to sponsor such a great group of ladies.
